On Thursday, January 28, 2010, the Board of Trustees of Nimishillen Township met in regular session at 7:00 PM at the Nimishillen Township Hall located at 4422 Maplegrove NE with the following members present: Trustee President Michael L. Lynch, Trustee Vice President Lisa R. Shafer, Trustee Allen E. Gress and Fiscal Officer Barry L. Evans.

 

Trustee Lynch called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM and led the staff and audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

 

NOTE:  All reports are available at the township office located at 4915 N. Nickelplate.  Copies are 10˘ per page.

GUEST SPEAKER: 

 

Township grant writer, Melinda Holsopple, introduced herself and told a little bit about her background in grant writing.  Keith Lasure, Jack Magee, Rich Peterson and Trustee Gress will meet with Melinda at 1 PM Thursday, Feb. 4th at fire station #3, to discuss possible grants available to the township.

 

FIRE DEPARTMENT: (Chief Richard Peterson)

 

Cell Phone: After discussion, the Board agreed for Chief Peterson to pursue a cost analysis and rate review for township cell phones.

 

Dispatch contract approval for Magnolia Fire Dept.: Chief Peterson reported Magnolia is one of 19 agencies being serviced by CenCom.  CenCom dispatched over 127,000 residents in Stark and Portage counties.

 

TRUSTEE SHAFER MOTIONED TO RENEW THE CONTRACT WITH MAGNOLIA VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR 2010 AT AN ANNUAL RATE OF $34 / PER INCIDENT SECONDED BY TRUSTEE GRESS.  MOTION CARRIED.  RES#10-032

Records request: A records request was received from Craig Chessler at Perry Township requesting fire department records for the ‘CenCom Regional Emergency Communications Center’ from the time period of Jan. 1, 2004 to date.  After discussion, the Board asked Mr. Evans to call Mr. Chessler to clarify and be more specific as to what they want.

ROAD DEPARTMENT:  (Jack Magee, Superintendent)

 

Safety meeting: Jack reported there will be a safety meeting at the township garage, weather permitting, on Friday January 29th with the City of Louisville road department on eye and face protection.

 

Form citizens committee: Trustee Lynch suggested forming a citizen’s committee to study the road department budget and learn about their funding needs.  He reported the road department is operating on funds from a levy back in 1990 and costs have since then gone up.  The current road levy is up in about a year.  Anyone interested to volunteer to be a part of this committee should call the township office at 330-875-9924.

 

Advertise to sell New Holland tractor: After discussion, TRUSTEE SHAFER MOTIONED TO ADVERTISE IN THE OHIO TOWNSHIP NEWS, THE TOWNSHIP WEBSITE AND THE INTERNET FOR THE 2002 NEW HOLLAND MODEL TS110 TRACTOR (2 WHEEL DRIVE) W/ALAMO MODEL VB 202 20’ GROOM MOWER FOR SEALED BIDS PURSUANT TO SEC. 505.10 OF THE O.R.C. AND IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL PROVISIONS OF O.R.C. SECTIONS 102 AND 2921 WITH AN ACCEPTED MINIMUM BID OF $45,000 SECONDED BY TRUSTEE GRESS.  MOTION CARRIED.  RES#10-033

CONCERNS OF CITIZENS:

 

Ron & Betty Derry of 8063 Columbus stepped to the podium and said the final Bicentennial celebration will be the ‘Time Capsule Closing’ on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the Louisville Public Library.  Refreshments will be served at 6:30 PM with the ‘closing’ at 7 PM. The time capsule will be opened on the 225th anniversary of Nimishillen Township, which will be March 16, 2034.  The township was formed on March 16, 1809.

 

Mr. Derry presented three framed certificates to the township: one from Mary Taylor, CPA, Auditor of State; one from the Stark County Commissioners and one from Rick Campbell, Stark County Recorder.  Mr. Derry said they are still waiting for one from the State of Ohio.  The framed certificates/ proclamations will be hung either at the township office on Nickelplate or the township hall on Maplegrove.

 

Mr. Derry reported they are trying to form a Louisville Area Historical Society to include Nimishillen Township and the City of Louisville.  Anyone interested can call the township office at 330-875-9924.
