Regular Meeting

January 22, 2009

 

On Thursday, January 22, 2009, the Board of Trustees of Nimishillen Township met in regular session at 7:00 PM at the Nimishillen Township Hall located at 4422 Maplegrove NE with the following members present:  Trustee President Lisa R. Shafer, Trustee Vice President Michael L. Lynch, Trustee Allen E. Gress and Fiscal Officer Barry L. Evans.

 

Trustee Shafer called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM and led the staff and audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

INVOCATION:

 

Trustee Lynch gave the invocation.

 

FIRE DEPARTMENT: (Rich Peterson, Fire Chief)

 

Due to a fire department related meeting, Trustee Shafer excused Chief Peterson from tonight’s meeting.

 

Reschedule Fire Department Work Session: After discussion, the fire department work session was scheduled for February 12, 2009 at 6:00 PM at Station #2 with the regular trustees’ meeting to follow at 7:00 PM.

 

Trustee Gress introduced a Boy Scout from Troop 15 who was in attendance at tonight’s meeting going for badges in communications and swimming. 

 

ROAD DEPARTMENT: (Jack Magee, Highway Superintendent)

 

Quotes for the 2009 Road Sweeping Program: Mr. Magee reported he would like to get the road sweeping letters out earlier this year. The Board approved sending out letters in February requesting quotes for road sweeping.

 

Road Report: TRUSTEE SHAFER MOTIONED TO APPROVE THE WRITTEN ROAD REPORT FOR JANUARY 22, 2009 SECONDED BY TRUSTEE GRESS.  MOTION CARRIED.  RES#09-028

The Board commended Mr. Magee and the road crew for doing an outstanding job.

ZONING DEPARTMENT: (Keith Lasure, Zoning Inspector)

 

Zoning Report: TRUSTEE SHAFER MOTIONED TO APPROVE THE WRITTEN ZONING REPORT FOR JANUARY 22, 2009 SECONDED BY TRUSTEE LYNCH.  MOTION CARRIED.  RES#09-029

 

          Roll call voting:        Mrs. Shafer   -         YES

                                        Mr. Gress     -         YES

 

EPA: (Keith Lasure, EPA Coordinator)

 

Septic Tank at 6776 Willow: The septic system at 6776 Willow is bubbling out through the top.  The house is vacant and up for sheriff sale.  Mr. Lasure contacted the health department.  They ordered the tank to be capped and plugged.  This problem has also been sent to the prosecutor to request a hearing with the judge to get it dug out and replaced.

 

CONCERNS OF FISCAL OFFICER: (Barry L. Evans)

 

There were no transfers or requests by the fiscal officer.

 

CONCERNS OF CITIZENS:

 

Ø     Terri Huckels of 8730 Easton asked about pending lawsuits, in particular the Bosley lawsuit and Chris Peterson lawsuit.  Trustee Shafer said the pending trail date for the Bosley lawsuit is July 27th at 9 AM and will be open to the public.  Mrs. Shafer stated it is hopeful we will receive a ruling on the SERB (Peterson) hearing by the end of this month.

 

Ø     Betty Derry of 8063 Columbus Road gave an update on the 4th Bicentennial meeting held on Tuesday, January 20th.  She stated there were 25 people in attendance, which included the committee, volunteers and guests.  The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 28th at Sta. #3 at 7:00 PM.  The Board commended Ron & Betty Derry for an outstanding job in the organizing and planning of the Nimishillen Township Bicentennial celebration.

Congratulations to Employees of the Year: The Louisville Area Chamber of Commerce holds a yearly ‘Night at the Oscars’ at Skyland Pines honoring outstanding residents of the City and Township.  Trustee Gress congratulated

Fire Department Division Captain, Scott Bauer, and Road Department crewmember, Jamie May, for being chosen as Nimishillen Township Employees of the Year and for their dedication and outstanding work.

 

APPROVE MINUTES:

 

TRUSTEE SHAFER MOTIONED TO APPROVE THE JANUARY 8, 2009 ORGANIZATIONAL AND REGULAR MEETING MINUTES AS WRITTEN SECONDED BY TRUSTEE GRESS.  MOTION CARRIED.  RES#09-030

APPROVE ALL PURCHASE ORDERS, FINANCIAL REPORT AND PAY BILLS:

 

TRUSTEE SHAFER MOTIONED TO APPROVE ALL PURCHASE ORDERS, FINANCIAL REPORT AND PAY BILLS IN THE AMOUNT OF $64,617.67 SECONDED BY TRUSTEE GRESS.  MOTION CARRIED.  RES#09-031
